Cracked and heaved concrete patios in Michigan are almost always a base problem first. Concrete that's poured on an adequately prepared, properly drained gravel base develops controlled cracks at control joints and holds level for decades. Concrete poured on poorly prepared or poorly drained base material settles, heaves, and cracks in unpredictable patterns. We address the base before the slab.

Our replacement process: demolition and removal of the existing slab, excavation to proper depth, gravel base installation and compaction, placement of welded wire reinforcement or rebar on chairs, and concrete poured at proper thickness with control joints at recommended spacing. For stamped concrete, color hardener and release agent are applied before pattern stamps go into the fresh surface. Stained patios receive acid or water-based stain after cure, sealed with a clear protective coating.

Oakland County homeowners who replace a concrete patio correctly get a surface that holds up through freeze-thaw cycles without heaving or cracking between control joints. Drainage grading away from the foundation and expansion joints at the house connection are standard practice on every pour — not optional details. Decorative stamping and staining let you get the appearance of natural stone or brick at the cost and simplicity of concrete.
