Flat and Low-Slope Roofing with TPO and EPDM Membranes

Flat and low-slope sections are common failure points on Oakland County homes — porches, additions, garage roofs, and mechanical rooms often have flat roofs installed with modified bitumen or built-up systems that have reached or passed their service life. Shingles don't work on low slopes because water drains too slowly. These sections need single-ply membrane systems designed to handle ponding and thermal movement.
We install TPO and EPDM membrane systems throughout Metro Detroit. TPO seams are heat-welded using hot-air welding equipment, creating a continuous monolithic surface with no mechanical joints that can open under stress. EPDM rubber membrane stays flexible well below zero, which matters during Michigan winters when thermal movement is greatest. Both systems install over rigid insulation board for improved R-value and positive slope toward drains.
Every penetration, edge, and transition gets detailed with manufacturer-specified flashing components — no improvised solutions at the hard spots. We verify positive drainage before covering anything and install overflow drains or scuppers as secondary drainage where code requires. We provide manufacturer warranties on membrane installations and back our own workmanship separately. Projects get documented with photos at each stage.
