What's Included in Our Basement & Attic Conversions Service

Finishing a basement or converting an attic is a moisture problem and a structural problem before it's a finish problem. In a Michigan basement, framing walls and hanging drywall without addressing moisture first produces mold, damaged finishes, and a remediation job within a few years. Every basement project we take on starts with a moisture evaluation, and we put drainage, waterproofing, and vapor control in place before any framing begins.

For attic conversions, the first questions are structural: can the existing floor joists carry living-space loads, is there adequate headroom at minimum code height, and does the space have a code-compliant egress path? The answers often require reinforcing joists, adding a dormer to meet height requirements, or cutting an egress window — all of which are permitted and inspected work.

Every finished basement and attic conversion we build in Oakland County goes through the permit and inspection process. Egress windows in bedrooms, smoke and CO detectors, AFCI-protected circuits, and insulation meeting current Michigan energy code R-values are code requirements. We pull all required permits, schedule every inspection at the correct phase, and deliver a space that passes final inspection with documentation on file.
