Oakland County Permit Management and Zoning Compliance

Add Photo Here

Oakland County has 62 municipalities with separate building departments, and they don't operate identically. Bloomfield Township's plan review process differs from Troy's. Birmingham's setback requirements differ from Clawson's. We've worked across the county for over 20 years and know what each department expects in an addition permit application.

A standard addition permit package includes a site plan showing proposed footprint relative to property lines and setback requirements, floor plans and exterior elevations, and stamped structural drawings. Electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits are pulled separately as required. Inspections are scheduled in sequence: footing, framing, rough-in, insulation, and final — each phase must be approved before the next one starts.

Permit management isn't just paperwork filing. A missed setback variance requirement or an out-of-sequence inspection can delay a project by weeks during peak season at a busy building department. We track every submission, follow up with plan reviewers, respond to correction notices, and schedule every inspection at the correct construction phase. Homeowners have enough to manage without also tracking municipal approval status on a system they'll use once.
