Laundry rooms in most homes are treated as utility space: bare walls, exposed pipes, a dated light fixture. When we build out laundry room cabinetry, the space actually works. Upper cabinets for detergents and supplies. A countertop folding surface built to the correct height above the machines. Pull-out hamper compartments so laundry doesn't pile up on the floor. We design around the specific machines the homeowner owns or plans to buy.
Countertop materials need to resist heat, moisture, and abrasion. We typically use quartz or solid surface. Pull-out hamper slots get sized for actual laundry baskets, not theoretical ones. Adjustable shelving inside the upper cabinets handles detergent containers of all sizes. Utility sink installations get plumbed with vented drains and shutoff valves that stay accessible.
Electrical upgrades often go in at the same time: dedicated circuits for modern high-efficiency machines, a dryer vent re-routed to code, LED task lighting above the folding surface. Oakland County homeowners with compact laundry spaces often add retractable clotheslines or wall-mounted ironing board cabinets. Everything gets coordinated so the laundry room is fully functional when we're done.
