Large-Format Porcelain and Ceramic Tile with Heated Floor Integration

Large-format porcelain and ceramic tiles — anything over 24 inches — require more substrate work than standard tile sizes. The slab or subfloor needs to be flat to a tighter tolerance. Large tiles telegraph even minor high and low spots as lippage between tiles. We use leveling clip systems during installation to prevent that. The prep work underneath is what makes the system work. We check flatness and grind or fill as needed before any tile goes down.
Heated floor integration for bathrooms and mudrooms in Southeast Michigan homes is wired as part of the tile installation. Electric heating cables or mats get laid out to manufacturer spacing specifications. They're embedded in modified thinset with full mortar coverage under each tile and connected to a programmable thermostat on a dedicated GFCI circuit. Every system gets tested before we close up the floor. There's no access to fix wiring problems once the tile is set.
Waterproof membrane application goes in before tile on any wet area floor: shower floors, bathroom floors, mudroom entries. Oakland County homeowners get a large-format tile floor that looks right, heats evenly, and doesn't develop moisture problems behind the scenes.
